May 1st to June 15th and August 15th to September 30th are the most economical times to visit. Alaska is known world wide for it's fishing which makes the July period congested with those in search of the giant King Salmon, so if its fishing your looking for make your reservation well in advance. Late August through September also offer great fishing opportunities for Silver Salmon, Halibut and Trout. Wildlife viewing is excellent year round, and especially good in the early spring and fall periods.
The enormous size of the state of Alaska is hard to imagine until you’ve been here, so planning is a must unless you prefer spending your entire vacation driving. Trying to see Alaska in a week is like planning to visit California, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico in 7 days. Most visitors return three or more time to take in all of Alaska.
